They seemed for a while to have lived in Hickman county, Tennessee.
George came to Arkansas early(late 1820's). He seems to have followed
soon after the migration of the Choctaw Indians to Southwest Arkansas and
Southeast Oklahoma and lived near the headquarters of the government
officials at Ultima Thule on a large tract of land in the Rolling Fork
bottoms in Sevier county a few miles west of the present city of De Queen.
The Federal Government records of Arkansas Territory gie George Halbrook
as having been appointed a magistrate of the territory. In 1835 as the
state records show he was elected coroner of Sevier county. He was a
delegate from Sevier county to the constitutional convention of 1836 that
drafted the first constitution of the State of Arkansas which was approved
by the Federal Congress when Arkansas was admitted as a state. His
signature is attached to that document.
