Thelma L. Grimes

Thelma L. Grimes, 89, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at Greenwood Health and Living Center. She was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Indianapolis.

She was born July 16, 1916, in Clay County. Her parents were Benjamin and Emma (Mason) Jackson. She married Fred L. Grimes on Sept. 2, 1933. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Fred J. Grimes of Indianapolis; seven daughters, Beth Grimes, Judy Harmon, Marilyn Cook and Carolyn Knight, all of Greenwood, Vivian Dorff of Crystal Lake, Ill., Naomi Hesson of Orlando, Fla., and Melinda Grizzle of Terre Haute; a sister, Nellie Sutherland of Terre Haute; 28 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, William and Philip Grimes; six sisters and four brothers.

She was employed for 10 years at L.S. Ayers & Co. in the housekeeping and security departments.

She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and former member of the Calvary E.U.B. Church in Indianapolis.

The Rev. Gene Rund will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service, Singleton & Herr Chapel, 7520 Madison Ave. in Indianapolis. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
