SHERRILL >> Bertha W. Griffin, age 92, formerly of Life Avenue and more recently of the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility passed away early Saturday morning, June 29, 2013 in St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
She was born on June 21, 1921 in Sherrill, N.Y., a daughter of the late Bert C. and Anna (Britzke) Wolverton and was a graduate of Sherrill High School.
In 1949 Bertha and Howard A. Griffin were united in marriage in Plymouth Alliance Church of Sherrill and shared a loving union of nearly 60 years together until Howard's death on Jan. 23, 2009.
Prior to her retirement in 1956 Bertha was employed for 17 years with the Oneida Limited Silversmiths.
Bertha was a very active member of the Christ Church United Methodist of Sherrill and a member of Christian Alliance. She enjoyed needle work, crocheting and knitting different items that she could donate to the church to be sold in the church's annual bizarre.
Surviving are her two sisters, Eleanor Keene of Sherrill and Marion Philo of Oneida. Also surviving are 122 nieces and nephews including Arlene (Joe) Ingalls of Oneida who was very helpful to Bertha in her later years.
Relatives that predeceased Bertha were Pauline Sorensen, Eva Fisher, Vernon Wolverton, Katherine Loomis, Alice Wolicki, Charles Wolverton, Vivian Mather and Kenneth Wolverton.
Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, N.Y. Bertha's funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, Park Street, Sherrill with Rev. Christopher Kinnell officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Valley View Cemetery, Oneida.
