"Three Denver Fishermen Drown Near Longmont

The bodies of three Denver men were recovered Monday from Foster Lake northeast of Longmont.

The fishermen drowned when their boat capsized Sunday. A search was not begun until the wife of one reported her husband had not returned home from the weekend fishing trip.

The bodies of Ed Little, 57, of 2821 W. 34th ave. and Frank Mastroianna, 44, of 3953 Kalamath st. were recovered by divers from the icy waters Monday. Marshal Crow, 53, of 2964 W. 40th ave. was found several hours later.

Sports Boat

Divers began searching the lake nine miles from Longmont when Mrs. Crow called Monday. Edwin Anderson, who owns the lake with his brother Albert, spotted the men's overturned boat.

Skindivers from Longmont Emergency Rescue Patrol found the bodies of Little and Mastroianna a few hours later. About 40 men from Longmont and Ft. Lupton rescue units and from Greeley and Loveland Fire Departments searched for Crow.

Virtus Einstahr, Greeley fireman, caught Crow's body with a grappling hook in about eight feet of water shortly after 1 p.m. He said the divers became too cold to continue searching.

Crow's body was found about 50 yards from the other two which were near the 14-foot outboard aluminum boat.

"It's possible Crow tried to swim to shore," Einstahr said. "He was 50 yards closer to shore. They were dressed heavy and probably couldn't swim too far.

Slight Wind

"The water was very cold. I don't think a persosn could last too long in it."

Authorities were unable to determine the cause of the accident. Weather Sunday was mild with only a slight wind.

"I don't know how it happened. He's always so careful," an employee in Crow's store, A&A Appliance at 3946 Federal blvd., said.

Mastroianna and Little both were employes [sic] at the store. The three men went on frequent fishing trips together, the employe, [sic] who refused to give his identity, said.
