Biography

Cassius was born in July, 1880 in Pennsylvania, the son of Alonzo and Ann (Lowry) Furman. Alonzo and Ann were born in Pennsylvania, as were all their parents. In 1900 they lived in Clarion Township, Strattanville borough, Clarion, Pennsylvania. The household included Alonzo, 64, b. Aug 1836, a millwright, who owned the family’s house with a mortgage, and who had been married for 41 years; his wife, Ann, 61, b. March 1839, who had had eight children, six of whom were living; their three adult children: Hiram C., 27, b. Aug 1872, an elevator man; Elizabeth, 23, a school teacher; and Cassius, 19, b. July 1880, a day laborer. All members of the household could read and write. [1]

Cassius married Bess Rankin (1881-1970). Cassius died in Franklin, Pennsylvania in 1963 at the age of 83. He is buried with his wife Bess in New Rehoboth-Greenville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Strattanville, Clarion, Pennsylvania. [2]

Biography

Bessie is the daughter of Della (Fleming) and Joseph Craig Rankin. In 1900, they lived in Clarion Township, Strattanville, Clarion, Pennsylvania. The household included (Joseph) Craig, 51, a stock drover who owned their farm free and clear; and his wife Della, 44. They had been married 27 years and had had nine children, all living. Also living with them were their seven children: Mary, 24, employed as a servant; Bessie, 19; John, 16; Nannie, 14; Calvin, 11; Elwood, 8; and William, 3. John, Nannie, Calvin and Elwood were all in school. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania, as were the parents of Craig and Della. [1]

Bess married Cassius E. Furman (1880-1963). Bess died in 1970 at the age of 88 or 89. She is buried with her husband Cassius in New Rehoboth-Greenville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Strattanville, Clarion, Pennsylvania. [2]
