Birth: Jul. 7, 1925
Death: Dec. 15, 2003

John Frentress was born July 7, 1925, into the family of John Frentress and Flora Lee (Dover) Frentress in Athens.

He married Kathryn Morris on May 10, 1947. John was a member of Raintree Christian Church, where he was a deacon for many years and a member of Ambassador Sunday School Class.

John served our country in the Army as a sergeant in World War II from 1943 to 1946, where he fought on Luzon, Leyte, Samar and New Guinea. He served in the liberation forces of Santa Tomos POW camp and in the occupation forces of Japan.

He worked for Pioneer Natural Gas Co./Westar/Cabot Corp. for 39 years before retiring in 1985. John was a past master of Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge 841 and a past patron of Lubbock 76 OES.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janett Frentress of Odessa and Judy Tartt of Midland; a son, John Thomas Frentress of Lubbock; a brother, Verdie Lee Frentress of Denver; two sisters, Mildred Henderson and Joyce Tyson, both of Oklahoma City; five granddaughters, Christine (Davis) Haskell, Angela Metcalf, Erica Frentress, Staci Frentress and Candi Moates; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Haskell.

The family suggests memorials be to Raintree Christian Church or Scottish Rite Learning Center of Lubbock.

Services were 2 p.m. Thursday in Raintree Christian Church with the Rev. Charles Carmen and the Rev. Lanny Hemmings officiating. Burial was in Peaceful Gardens in Woodrow by Resthaven Funeral Home.

John Frentress was known as a strong man of character, and physical strength, yet kind hearted and generous, serving others in very way he could. Following his retirement, he and his wife became very active travelling about the country in their travel trailer with others who shared the passion for travel, until health forced them to cease travel altogether in later years.

The Texas Panhandle Snow-Birds could often be found in Zapata in the winter months, with kindred spirits of their West Texas neighbors.
