Obituary #1
WAIT - At his home in Wait Settlement, town of Owego, N.Y., Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 1902, of inflammation of the bowels, Fred Wait, aged 57 years.
Mr. Wait was a son of the late Wm. Wait. He leaves a wife and one son, Wm. Wait; one sister, Mrs Dennis Russell; and one brother, John H. Wait, of Nichols, to mourn the loss of a husband, and a father and a brother. He was sick but two days, and bore his sufferings with patience until he passed to the spirit land. He was an active business man and a good citizen and friend. The funeral services were held at the church Monday, conducted by the Rev. Chas. Lewis, who spoke words of comfort, and the remain were laid in the cemetery at Wait's, by the side of his parents.
He's gone to where bright angels greet him,
Where he's free from grief and pain;
Where they hope ere long to meet him,
Never more to part again.

Obituary #2
Frederick C. Wait died at his home in Wait settlement, N.Y., early in the morning of Aug. 16, 1902, of inflammation of the bowels, aged 57 years. He was a son of the late William Wait, and a lifelong resident of the locality in which he died. Mr. Wait was well and favorably known, and had the respect of all who had known him. Until two days before his death he had actively and faithfully performed his part in life, when he was taken sick with a severity, before which medical skill was powerless. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Charles Lewis a the Wait church and the large concourse gathered, testified the esteem in which he was held. His was pre-eminently a home life. With unselfish devotion and untiring perseverance, he labored incessantly for the welfare and happiness of his family. Sadly indeed will they miss a husband's and father's tender thoughtfulness and care. He leaves a wife, one son, William F.; a brother and sister, John H. Wait and Mrs. Almira Russell, Nichols, N.Y. to mourn his sudden death. His love, his life are with us, and remembering him, or love for the living is made more tender, thoughtful, and unselfish. To the bereaved wife and son the following lines are lovingly inscribed by a friend:
In the shade of the night, dark and lonely,
While watching with tenderest care;
When His messenger folded thy darling,
And bore him to realms bright and fair;
When no comfort on earth could be given;
When for strength you looked only to God,
Did you hear not message so tender,
"I love thee, pass under the rod?"
When the casket, containing your loved one,
Was laid in the windowless tomb;
When the clouds of the valley were falling,
And life seem all darkness and gloom;
When you thought of your loved one--your darling--
As lying beneath the cold sod,
Heard ye not the voice of your Master,
"I love thee, pass under the rod?"
In the night of affliction and trial,
Which He, in His wisdom, had sent,
When teardrops thine eyesight had blinded,
And heart-strings with sorrow were rent;
When bowing in humble submission,
And trusting the wisdom of God,
How dear were the accents so loving,
"I love thee, pass under the rod?"
Then mourn not the loss of your dear one--
God doeth all things for the best;
Your husband, though gone from your bosom,
Is happy with throngs of the blest.
Then dark though the pathways been round you,
And rough been the way you have trod,
Yet He who has sent this affliction
Still loves thee--"pass under the rod."
Then think of your loved one as waiting
And watching to welcome you there:
Where parents and children united,
Shall never know sorrow or care;
Where Death and his terrors are feared not,
And love is the glory of God;
Where happiness ever is given
To those who "pass under the rod."
