Rose Budd Fenstermacher, 92, of Pleasant Gap, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at UPMC of Altoona.
Born October 1, 1922 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James Madison and Mary Louise Williams Nickell. She married Lt. Kay Irvin Fenstermacher, on November 24, 1945, who preceded her in death on May 21, 1996.
She is survived by two children, Bruce K. Fenstermacher and his wife, Sue, of Allentown, Drew S. Fenstermacher and his wife, Dianna, of State College, four grandchildren, Kristen Fenstermacher, Julee Owlett and her husband, Matt, Scott Fenstermacher and his wife, Kathryn, Todd Fenstermacher, three great grandchildren, Daniel, Emma Rose and Judah Owlett and one niece Jennifer Nickell. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Nickell and a sister Margaret Miller.
Rose Budd was a 1941 graduate of Upper Darby High School. She attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art.
She was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army in World War II, stationed at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia. She worked in the Army Hospital directly with the wounded as they returned from Atlantic and Pacific Campaigns using her skills as an Artist doing physical therapy. After WWII she continued to work with WWII wounded at Valley Forge General Hospital, Valley Forge, as a member of the American Red Cross.
Rose Budd taught art for many years in West Chester. She taught grade school art, adult night school, private adult art classes and landscape adult classes. She was a teacher and board member of the Chester County Art Association and also the executive director for the Chester County Art Association, both of West Chester.
She retired as an Interior Designer working from 1963-1988 employed by the Chester County Hospital, West Chester and additional hospitals in Philadelphia, Norristown, Delaware and Lock Haven and residential and commercial clients in West Chester, Philadelphia and Indiana as well as churches in West Chester and Wabash, Indiana.
She was commissioned to paint a ceiling panel in the Senate Conference Room of the State Capital Building in Harrisburg. She also did wall murals at Hershey Medical Center and designed and painted stage back drops, murals in private homes, portraits and commercial design projects.
She attended the Faith Baptist Church in State College. She was honored and loved by all.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. A visitation will be held at the Faith Baptist Church from 10-11 a.m. prior to the funeral service on Saturday, February 28, 2015.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Faith Baptist Church, 647 Valley Vista Drive, State College, with the Reverend Drew S. Fenstermacher, her son, officiating.
Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery
