"Perhaps the largest attended funeral ever held in Plainfield was that of Calvin R. Satterlee, deceased. He was a member of the M. W. A. and the camps at Horton and Plainfield turned out en masse. Representatives from adjoining camps were also present. Deceased had suffered for months form [sic] tuberculos consumption and the end quietly came, Friday, June 10, 1898. The funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church at Plainfield of which organization he was a member. Rev. P. M. Smock officiated at the church and the M. W. A. at the cemetery. Deceased leaves a wife and two children, who are well provided for through his insurance in hte Woodmen. The subject of this notice was born in Ohio, March 15, 1856. Came to Iowa when a mere babe. After spending 2 years in Minnesota he settled in this state again. in 1878 he was married to Martha Farnsworth. To them were born two children, of which one survives. His first wife died in 1891. July 2, 1894 he was married to Mary J. Burhoker, who still lives. Two children were born to his second wife of which one lives. The Woodmen did all in their power to add comfort and contentment to his dying bed. They have proven how good and how blessed a thing it is for brothers to dwell together in unity. When the present membership are laid low in the dust behind will be left two immortal jewels - the orphans' prayer of gratitude and the widows' tear of joy. D.
