Alfred "Tom" W. Elliott, the son of Alfred W. and Josephine (Anderson) was born January 24, 1925 in Essex, Iowa. He died on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Red Oak Rehab & Care Center in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 27 days.
Tom was raised in the Essex area. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II aboard the USS Basswood, receiving a good conduct medal on April 5, 1946. Tom worked for Earl May Nursery in Shenandoah, Iowa. He drove tractor trailers for 40 years. Tom was honored with an award of recognition for driving 40 years without a preventable accident. He was united in marriage to Mary (Homan) Crawford on June 8, 1960 in Omaha, Nebraska. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary on February 11, 1995; 3 sisters: Betty Allshouse, Eldora Hicks and Ruth Cox; 2 brothers: Earl and Lawrence.
Tom is survived by 2 brothers: Floyd Elliott and wife Nina of Blockton, Iowa and Frank Elliott and wife Sandy of Red Oak, Iowa; a sister: Geraldine Foreman of Carroll, Iowa, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.
Military memorial graveside service will be held Friday, September 8, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Essex Cemetery.
