Dr. Henry H. Dyer, 93, longtime resident of South Williamsport, passed away on Dec. 31, 2014, at HCR ManorCare South, Williamsport.

Henry was born May 1, 1921, at Fishers Ferry, the son of the late Ralph M. and Velma E. Hopper Dyer.

Henry was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church at South Williamsport.

He had been a member of the board of directors of Pine Hill Cemetery at Elysburg.

Henry had served as a corporal in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II.
He had served in the Headquarters and Supply Company of the 21st Engineering Aviation Regiment.
He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal with three Bronze stars.

He was a graduate of the South Williamsport High School, Class of 1940.

He received his undergraduate degree (BA) from the former Dickinson Seminary (now Lycoming College) at Williamsport in 1947; his master's degree (MS) in 1949 from Bucknell University at Lewisburg; and was awarded his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956.

Dr. Dyer was a retired professor of English from Radford University at Radford, Va.
He was awarded the honor of Professor Emiritus from Radford.

His only survivor is his sister, Miss Marie L. Dyer, of Williamsport.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at the Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg.
His pastor, the Rev. Joshua L. Reinsburrow, will officiate.
Flowers will be provided. There will be no visitation.
