Husband of Hannah Biddle (McVay) Dunn (1834-1918). James and Hannah were married on November 7, 1861. James had been married previously to Rachel (Ross) Dunn (1831-1859). James and Rachel were married on January 5, 1855. James was the son of Joseph Dunn and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Dunn.

(Please note: James' headstone states that he was born in 1832, however, his death certificate gives his birth date as October 20, 1833. The certificate also had listed his age as 80 years, 8 months and 22 days old, however it was crossed out to say 79 years, 8 months and 22 days old indicating he was born in 1833 and not 1832. His obituary, however, indicates that he was "almost" 81 years old, and gives his birth date as October 20, 1832, which brings it back to 1832.)

"James M. Dunn, a well-known and highly respected citizen, died at his home in Prosperity Saturday morning, July 12, aged almost 81 years. His death was due to enlargement of the liver and other complications from which he had suffered for the past four months. Mr. Dunn was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Montgomery Dunn who were early pioneer settlers of Morris township, this county, and was born October 20, 1832. For many years Mr. Dunn resided in West Union and was the leading farmer and stock raiser of that community. His flocks of sheep often numbered as high as 1,500 and of the finest quality. He was successful in all agricultural pursuits. Beside he was active in every public enterprise that pertained to the welfare of the community in which he lived. Mr. Dunn was one of the promoters and for years the director of the Waynesburg and Washington railroad. He was a member of the West Union Presbyterian church. Four years ago he removed to Prosperity and lived a retired life. He was twice married, his first wife being Rachel Ross, daughter of Benjamin Ross, of Ruffs Creek, who died in November 1859. On November 7, 1861, he was united in marriage with Hannah McVay, daughter of Samuel McVay of Prosperity, who with the following children survives, Mrs. A. M. Sellers of near West Union; Cassius C. Dunn of Prosperity; and Mrs. Homer Crumrine of Urbana, Ohio. The funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. T. G. Gray. Interment in West Union cemetery."
