Tom Douglas Dead at 78

Tom Douglas, former Morning Sun city martial and long-time resident of this place, died late Monday afternoon (March 16, 1959) at his home following a heart attack. He was 78 years old.

Only minutes before his death he had walked to town after an evening newspaper, and was sitting at home reading when he was stricken.

Thomas J. Douglas was the son of David and Sarah Shipley Douglas, and was born at Unionville, Missouri on February 4, 1881. In 1910 he was married. in Muscatine to Mina McKinney. In 1933 he was married to Rosa Watson in Morning Sun.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Clemins of Manteca, California, and a son, Dale Douglas, Morning Sun. Also surviving are three grandchildren.

Funeral services conducted by the Reverend O. R. Thome will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Morning Sun Methodist church. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery."

Morning Sun—Thomas J. Douglas, 78, died at his home in Morning Sun Monday.

The son of David and Sarah Shipley Douglas, and was born at Unionville, Mo.. Feb. 4, 1881.

He married Mina McKinney at Muscatine in 1910; and in 1933, he married Rosa Watson, Morning Sun.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Clemins, Manteca, Calif.; a son, Dale Douglas, Morning Sun; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Key O. R Thome at 2 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church in Morning Sun, with burial in Elmwood cemetery at Morning Sun.

The body is at the Pierce funeral home at Morning Sun.

MORNING SUN — Mrs. Rosa Alice Douglas, 90, Morning Sun, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 8, in Burlington Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 29, 1888, in Van Buren county, the daughter of John E. and Mary Ella Johnson Wolverton. She married Charles B. Watson and following his death she married Thomas Douglas in 1934; he died March 16, 1959.

She was a member of the United Methodist church and the RNA.

Surviving: Two sons, Elmer and Roy Watson, both of Morning Sun; two daughters, Helen Marshall, Cedar Falls, and Leila Perrenoud, Fairfield; brother, Lem Wolverton, Kileen, Texas; two sisters, Jessie Royer, St. Charles, Mo., and Lulu Bryant, Morning Sun; five grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, United Methodist church, Rev. Fred Harris; Elmwood cemetery. The body is at Pierce funeral home.
