Zeehandelaar, a friend and prominent business associate of Harrison Gray Otis of 'Los Angeles Times' fame, was the Secretary of the Merchants and Manufacturers' Assocation. The morning of the October 1, 1910 bombing of the 'Times' building, investigators found two additional undetonated bombs one at the home of Otis and the other at Zeehandelaar's home – 607 South Kenmore in Hollywood. James B. McNamara claimed that his brother John J. McNamara had instructed him to set the bombs at the newspaper office and at the two homes. In 1898 Zeehandelaar had a heated discussion with James R. Finlayson, the United States district attorney over an Internal Revenue stamp that was designed to help raise funds for the Spanish American War – the post office and/or couriers were to affix the stamps the customer purchsed to the package. Zeehandelaar wanted a Wells Fargo clerk arrested because the clerk refused to ship a package for him without the stamp that supported the war. In the end Wells Fargo was fined $50 for the incident.
