Ruth Wolverton Cuppett, 91, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg where she had resided since March 200l.

She was born April, 21, 1915, in Balmorhea, Texas, a daughter of the late Dr. James Hanson Wolverton Sr. and Ruth (Grant) Wolverton.?

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Judge David Earle Cuppett Jr., who died June l8, l990.

An infant daughter, Cornelia Cresap Cuppett, preceded her parents in death on June 28, l94l. Mrs. Cuppett's four siblings, Dr. James H. Wolverton Jr., Kathryn W. Carvey, Harriet W. Hackney and Dr. William Roger Wolverton Jr., also preceded her in death.?

A graduate of Piedmont High School, she earned her bachelor of arts degree in sociology from West Virginia University in l935. She worked in her father's medical office before her marriage on May l, l937, after which the couple moved to Petersburg.

Mrs. Cuppett taught at Petersburg Grade School from l944-1945 and at Petersburg High School from l958-1960. A member of Petersburg Presbyterian Church, she was in women?s circles and served a term as secretary of Winchester Presbyterial. She was an early member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 78, Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Petersburg Chapter l46 Order of Eastern Star.

She was an alumna of Chi Omega Fraternity, national social sorority.Was a direct descendant of Col. Thomas Cresap, an early l700s pathfinder, pioneer and patriot, she became a charter member of the South Branch Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Cuppett's past interests were playing the piano, bridge, golf, traveling and visiting family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth C. and husband, John A. Buchanan, of Chalk Hill, Pa.; a son, David E. Cuppett III and wife, Karen, of Canaan Valley;?eight grandchildren, Anne A. Buchanan of Ardmore, Pa., Kerra B. and husband, Jeffrey J. French, of Morristown, N.J., James Grant and wife, Kristen Buchanan, of Eighty-four, Pa., Jill B. and husband, Steven L. Hamel, of Mt. Lebanon, Pa., David E. IV and wife, Amy Cuppett, of Four Oaks, N.C., B. Scott and wife, Lisa Cuppett, of Rockwall, Texas, Christopher J. and wife, Rita Cuppett, of Fairfax, Va., and Robyn N. Cuppett of Radford, Va. Mrs. Cuppett was blessed with 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Harold K. Carvey Sr. of Keyser; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Geraldine R. Wolverton of Fayetteville, N.C.;several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, Nov. 13, at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Cardot, assisted by the Rev. Tommy George, officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thomas.
