"Christine (Holloway) Florence was born in Bragg City,
Missouri on November 9, 1937. She lived on Woolverton
Mountain, Conway County, Arkansas from 1938 until 1945 when
her family moved to Southeast Missouri. In 1955 the family
moved back to Clinton, Arkansas .
From 1957 to 1960, Chris studied and trained at the
Baptist Hospital School of Nursing at Little Rock, Arkansas.
She later attended Harding College at Searcy, Arkansas and
Columbia University in New York City, where she graduated
with an advanced nursing degree in 1967. She is a registered
nurse .
She was married to Daniel W. Florence on May 28, 1970 in
New York City. They have 2 children, both born at
Louisville, Kentucky: Allison Kaye, b. December 19, 1973, and
Brian Scott Florence, b. November 16, 1977.
Dan Florence was raised in the West Texas town of Ralls,
near Lubbock. His grandfather, William Florence, was an
early cotton farmer in the area. After graduation from high
school, he attended Abilene Christian College but dropped out
to join the Air Force. After 4 years in the service, he
attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he
graduated as an accountant in 1961. For several years he
worked for Texaco Oil in Houston and then was transferred to
their headquarters in New York City. It was there that Dan
and Christine met in a church singles group and subsequently
were married. They lived there a year-and-a-half before
moving to Louisville, Kentucky, where their 2 children were
born.
Chris and Dan Florence belong to the Church of Christ.
Chris is a history buff and enjoys traveling and the
outdoors. She has always had an interest in knowing more
about her great-grandfather, Elijah Aaron Woolverton, because
her mother told her so many interesting stories about him.
Her mother, Bessie (Woolverton) Holloway, had been raised by
this grandfather from the time she was 4 years old."
