Adam Everitt was one of the first settlers of the Milan, Ohio area. He came out in 1811, was driven back to New Jersey by threat of an Indian attack, came back in 1816 again and was driven back by "the year without a summer" that froze out crops, but then came back again and in 1821 and established a grocery store in Milan. His father, Major David Everitt (EVERETT), also came out to Milan. Adam died only three years after his father in 1849. A number of other Everitts (who also changed the spelling to EVERETT later on) were also in the Milan area.
