Research Notes: Husband - William ENSIGN

It is known that Providence Jane was married to an Ensign at the time of
the marriage of her daughter, Mary Louella Hubbard to Charles Scoles, on
Nov 1, 1894, because they had to give their permission.

No records of an Ensign have been found in Fayette County or Effingham
County, Illinois.

William Ensign with his wife, Providence, and son Herman were listed in
the 1910 Census of Yell County, Arkansas. There he was shown as 47 yrs
old, his wife 54 yrs old and his son 20 yrs old. The were shown as having
been married for 22 years.

He was a scoundrel from the report of his step-grand-children, Lorene and
Mary Jane Scoles -- the grand-children of the first marriage of his wife,
Providence Jane Yarnell to Benjamin Milon Hubbard.

Research Notes: Wife - Providence Jane (Ensign) YARNELL

Her second husband was an Ensign. No record has been found of Providence
that would reveal her maiden name.

The information available was gleaned from "Fayette Facts" and a 1980
census of Fayette County.

The 1910 Census of Yell County, Arkansas shows her as 54 yrs old, married
to William Ensign, and having been married to him for 22 years, and having
a child, Herman in the household who was 20 yrs old.

No record of her death and burial have been found. It is assumed that she
and William were buried near Centerville, either at Moore's Hill or at
Harris Cemetery, Although no grave markers were found at either place.
