Birth: Nov. 11, 1847
Macon County
Illinois, USA
Death: Apr. 27, 1919
Macon County

Mrs. Margaret Elder of Elwin, widow of Robert H. Elder, died at 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning in the residence of her son, E. R. Elder, 933 North College street. She was seventy-one years old last November. Her death was caused by a complication of diseases, with which she had been suffering for five months. For the last two months she had been visiting her son in Decatur. Her condition became much worse Friday and she failed rapidly. Mrs. Elder's maiden name was Margaret Ward. She was born four miles south of Decatur, Nov 11, 1847. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ward, had moved from Ohio to central Illinois in 1840, but her uncle, Louis Ward, was the first white man to settle in Macon county, coming here in 1823. Mrs. Elder had lived at Elwin for thirty-five years. She was well known to the old residents of the county. She was a sister of the late Hiram Ward and John Ward, and was the last of her family. She was a member of the Bethlehem Presbyterian church and had many friends. Mrs. Elder leaves two sons and a daughter, Charles P. Elder of Elwin and E. R. Elder of Decatur, and Mrs. C. B. Shively, living north of Decatur. The funeral will be held at 2 30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church in Elwin. The services will be conducted by Rev Edgar Smith, Pastor of the Bethlehem church, assisted by Rev. William Raynolds of Elwin. Burial will be in the Salem cemetery.
