Bertram "Bert" Duckwall Jr., 70, passed away February 2, 2016 at Springhill Village Nursing Home in Terre Haute with his family by his side.
Bert was born February 2, 1946, in Washington D.C., the son of the late Bertram Sr. and Thelma (Volandt) Duckwall. He graduated from Brazil High School in 1963. Following high school, he pursued his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree of Sociology at Indiana State University. He also completed the study course at Garrett--Evangelical Theological Seminary. Following seminary school, he was a pastor at North Union UMC, Shoals UMC, French Lick UMC, and Bowling Green UMC, to name a few. In 2008, Bert retired from teaching 6th grade U.S. History at Dinwiddie Middle School in Virginia. He was a member of Groveport, OH Masonic Lodge and a founding member of the El Shaddai Emmaus Community. Bert loved history, especially during the Civil War Era. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, guns, I.U. Basketball, Indianapolis Colts, and L.A. Dodgers.
He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Linda Duckwall, brother, Bill Meador; sisters, Margie Troiano and Stearley Finch.
Bert is survived by his children, Matthew Duckwall (Alana), Cindy Deter (Michael); grandchildren, Philip Deter, Michaelyn Deter, Elizabeth Duckwall, Anna Sofia Duckwall all of Clay City; wife, Brenda (Johnson) Duckwall; special niece, Ann Webb; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Family and friends are welcome at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 4pm until 8pm. Services will be Friday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastors Tom True and Jim Byerly officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if you desire, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Clay City, 610 Washington St., Clay City, IN 47841.
