Also spelled Koon. Shortly after the Revolutionary War, Nicholas Koon and
wife, formerly Miss Davalt, with two boys and two girls, George, Peter,
Susan, and Rachel, moved from somewhere between Spartanburg and
Greenville, S.C. to a point in Rutherford County (N.C.) six miles west of
the White House in Montford's Cove. He erected a corn mill. He became
associated with Jimmy Owensby's family who was a revolutionary soldier and
fought in the battle of King's Mountain. Later in life, George married
Annie Owensby and settled on the waters of mountain Creek, and obtained
several hundred acres of land. The following children were born: John,
Madison, Davalt, Demeris, Miriam, Ruth, Armentie, and Polly.
