WILEY W. DAVIS
Wiley Webster Davis, son of W.T. Davis and Eva Welker Davis, was born August 21, 1903, and died at the Ellis-Fischel State Cancer Hospital in Columbia on Friday, May 20 [1977].
On April 22, 1931, he married Gertrude Levon Timbrook. To this union one daughter, Dorothy Lee of Braymer, and one son, Robert Dean of Fresno, Calif., were born.
"Buster", as he was known to his friends, farmed in the Braymer and Catawba area most of his life. He and his wife were proprietors of the Catawba Store for several years and later manager of the Polo Locker System.
Survivors include his daughter and son; two brothers, W.T. Davis of Winfield, Iowa, and Emmett Davis Norborne, one sister, Mrs. Lula Lewis of Dawn; seven grandchildren; Charlotte (Phillips) Stiens of Barnard, Gayle and Marshall Phillips of Braymer, and Kathy, Ricky, Robbie and Doug Davis of Booneville, Ark.; and ten nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Dawson and Wesley, and a grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 23 at 2 p.m. at the Braymer Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Barnett officiating.
Mrs. Helen Pitts sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Whispering Hope" accompanied by organist Mrs. Mary Ola Foreman.
Pallbearers were Joe Petree, Earl Young, Victor Young, Leonard Dunn, Leroy Fraziers and Charley Stubblefield.
Burial was in the Braymer Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Pitts Funeral Service.
