Howard Dale Conger was born and grew up in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, and met future wife Lucille Luehr, a kindergarten teacher, there. His parents moved to St. Marys, Ohio, when changes in the wool industry led to his father taking a job at the St. Marys Blanket Company.

Howard had a 60-year career in sales. As early as age 22, he was traveling for the American Manufacturing Co. of Sheboygan, a large chair firm. For many years, he was a furniture salesman with the Northfield Co. and the Goebel Manufacturing Co., Evansville, Ind.

He and wife Lucille married on September 12, 1912, at the Sheboygan Falls Baptist Church. They raised their son Bob and daughter Betty in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. They owned a summer cottage on Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Howard was survived by his son and daughter; four grandchildren; a sister, Winifred Bubp, St. Mary's, Ohio; and other relatives.

Howard's 6th great-grandfather was John Belconger who arrived in Massachusetts from Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, in 1665, then moved to New Jersey. John married twice and had 14 children who founded the Conger family in America.
