Thomas Wayne Mills passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at his home west of Moline. He was 52 years of age.
Tom was born on May 3, 1952, at Sedan to Calvin Leroy and Mary Lou (Perrigo) Mills. He grew up in the Moline community and graduated from Moline High School in 1970.
On Sept. 6, 1970, he married Wanda Louise Cain at the Elk Falls United Methodist Church in Elk Falls and to this union were born three children, Shawn Thomas, Chelise Diane and Stephanie Lynn.
In 1980, Tom and Wanda began operating the Moline Feed and Supply in partnership with Roger and Linda Patteson. In 1987, Tom and Wanda bought controlling interest in the business and have owned and operated the business as Mills Feed and Supply. Tom was a partner with his son, Shawn, in operating the Mills Ranch near Moline. He took great pride in watching his son follow in his footsteps.
Tom and Wanda celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on Monday, Sept. 6, and spent the day with their family. Tom enjoyed spending time with his wife and family most of all.
He was a member of the board of directors of the Moline High School Alumni Association and served as chairman of Rural Water District #1. Tom was a former mayor and city council member of Moline, and served as the Moline Fire Chief. He was a stockholder of the Moline Rodeo Association for many years and was recently appointed to the office of President. Tom was a member of Hope Masonic Lodge #155 of Howard, Ladonia Chapter #243 Order of the Eastern Star of Elk Falls and the Moline. Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; his son, Shawn, Moline; his daughters, Chelise Moore and her husband Matt, and Stephanie Mills, all of Moline; his parents, Calvin and Mary Lou Mills, Moline; his mother-in-law, Bernice Cain, Moline; his brothers, Gary, Mulvane, Mike, Moline and Dan, El Dorado; two grandsons, Austin and Dylan Moore, Moline; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2p.m., on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the Moline Christian Church with Rev. Gary Boles and Rev. Mark Loftin officiating. Interment was held at the Moline.
Memorials have been established in his name with the Moline Alumni Association and the 4-H/FFA Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be left with the funeral home.
The funeral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
