Donald Keller Burke, 88, of Martinsburg, went to be with our Lord Oct. 14, 2012, at City Hospital with his family by his side.
Born April 18, 1924, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Charles Robert and Edna Lamberson Burke.
Mr. Burke retired from the U.S. Navy after a stellar career as a senior chief petty officer. He was a World War II combat veteran and a plank owner at the Naval Memorial. Upon returning to the local area after his retirement from the military, Mr. Burke continued to serve his community. He worked with the Martinsburg City Council on the parking lot committee. Mr. Burke volunteered at City Hospital for many years - he was affectionately known as "the wheelchair man."
He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and trustee.
He is survived by his five children, Helen Rowe and husband, John, of Martinsburg, Kathy Terrell and husband, Jack, of Kinston, Wash., Patti Hoffman and husband, David, of Kearneysville, Debbie Alderton and husband, Rick, of Falling Waters, and Donald Burke Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Bunker Hill.
