Leland Hobbs

Leland E. Hobbs, 78, of Mediapolis died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa city.

Born April 22, 1932, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Vernie and Evalin Reighard Hobbs. In March 1950, he married Jessie Maxine Bryant in Morning Sun.

Mr. Hobbs worked as a plant manager at Ideal Concrete in Mediapolis for many years. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kenneth Hobbs and Bob Hobbs, both of Mediapolis, and Bryan Hobbs of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Mills of Morning Sun; and two brothers, Marvin Hobbs of Morning Sun and Ron Hobbs of Lone Tree.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, his parents and one sister.

No visitation is planned. The body has been cremated.

The memorial service for Mr. Hobbs will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.

A memorial has been established.

Maxine Hobbs, 78, of Mediapolis, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born Nov. 23, 1932, in Morning Sun, she was the daughter of George and Lula Wolverton Bryant. In March 1950, she married Leland Hobbs. He died Sept. 13, 2010. Mrs. Hobbs attended Morning Sun High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Morning Sun United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Hobbs and Bob Hobbs, both of Mediapolis, Bryan Hobbs of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Darlene Dean of Morning Sun. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, five brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Hobbs has donated her body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy. A memorial service for Mrs. Hobbs will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Morning Sun United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. A memorial has been established. Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis is assisting the family with arrangements.
