E. Irene Carpenter, 72, of Morning Sun, died Friday, August 23, 1991, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born October 27, 1918, in Morning Sun, she was the daughter of George and Lula Wolverton Bryant. She married Arthur M. Carpenter September 10, 1939, in Morning Sun.

In her early years, she had worked at Emerson Electric and Metromail in Mount Pleasant. She was a 1937 graduate of Morning Sun High School and was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and its Past Presidents Club.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Carol Leider, Cedar Falls; one son, Donald Carpenter, Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sisters, Darlene Dean, Morning Sun, and Shirley Haight and Maxine Hobbs, both of Mediapolis; three brothers, Walter Bryant, Cecil Bryant and Kenneth Bryant, all of Morning Sun; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun.

The service for Mrs. Carpenter will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Morning Sun, with the Reverend Chris Ebbers officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Morning Sun Methodist Church and the Morning Sun American Legion Auxiliary."
