Ernest E. Brown, 84, Gibson City, died at 6:37 a.m. Monday at his home and has now entered his eternal home.

Ernie was born June 7, 1921, near Wayne City, a son of George and Dorothy Brown. He married Ella Corinne Wolverton on July 28, 1946, in Ionia, Mich. Connie survives in Gibson City.

Also surviving are his four children, Mark (Kathy) Brown, Bloomington; Marsha (Vito) Kerpe, Sheboygan, Wis.; Danny (Cheryl) Brown, Orlando, Fla.; and Corinne (Andy) Day, Madison, Miss.; 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Edna Marie (Willie) Anderson, Lexington, and Evelyn (Charles) Christiansen, Memphis, Tenn.; and one brother, Robert (Joyce) Brown, Rantoul.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leroy, Clarence and Eugene Brown; and one sister, Flossie Mae Brucker.

The Brown family moved to the Gibson City area in 1923 where Ernie was reared on a grain and livestock farm. He attended a county grade school and graduated from Drummer Township High School (now GCMS). He was active in high school athletics.

He served in World War II as a forward observer surveyor at sergeant rank in the U.S. Army. When he returned home he married Connie, his wife of almost 60 years.

He was very active in his community and his church.
