Emmett was born in south Coleman County on February 12th, 1935 and lived in the Coleman area until approximately age 13, then moved to Andrews, Texas. He lived there until he went into the U. S. Army in 1942, served in the Korean War for 13 months, was awarded the United States Presidential Citation and The Korean Presidential Citation for bravery in the face of the enemy. He was also awarded the Korean Service Medal with three combat stars, The United Nations Medal, Good Conduct Medal and several other Medals of Honor. He held a top secret clearance and worked for military attached to the Atomic Energy Commission in California for two years, then transferred to the U. S. Air Force in 1958, served with the American Embassy Attaché enlisted Courier duty in Formosa now Taipei Taiwan for 18 months and then assigned to the Air Force Training Command at Lackland AFB, where he was assigned as academics and drill ceremonies NCO from February 1962 to 1966, completing 14 years and eight months of military duty."

"He married Patta J. Young Blake in Kaiserslautern, Germany on June 8, 1957 while assigned to military post in Hanau. Patta was a U.S. military dependent, at the time her dad was assigned to Kaiserslautern Independent School District for the US Forces in Germany. After military career, Emmett and Patta owned and operated Continental Personnel offices in Houston and Pasadena, Texas. He was also a specialist in financial and insurance agencies in the Houston area and trained and set up independent offices with Recording Agency License for a variety of insurance and financial principles all over the United States.

"He consulted with automobile dealers floor plans and profit control after the sale. After leaving the Houston area, he moved back to the Coleman area. He and Patta owned K&H Real Estate and Mid-City Motors, along with Blake Motor Company in the Coleman area. He also owned Blake Rent-All and A to Z Rental in Abilene for several years. After the oil crunch wiped out a lot of small businesses, he worked with Taylor Motor Company and Mahan Ford as general sales manager. Emmett was also a licensed real estate agent and automobile dealer in the state of Texas.

"Survivors include his wife, Patta Blake; and two sons, Scott A. Blake and Gary D. Blake, both of Abilene; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernadene Cockerham of Liberal, Kansas, Patsy J. Melrose of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Reba L. Kirk of Liberal, Kansas.

"He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Cherry; his mother, Inez Blake Ailstock and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins of the Coleman area."
