Mary Furman Berryman, 84, of Waynesburg, died Monday, September 7, 2009, in Evergreen Assisted Living, Waynesburg.

She was born December 24, 1924, in Washington Township, a daughter of the Hon. Roy E. Furman and Helen Ross Furman.

Mrs. Berryman was a 1946 graduate of Waynesburg College and earned a master's of library science from West Virginia University in 1964.

In 1946, she married John D. Berryman II, who died June 16, 1982.

Mrs. Berryman retired from West Greene School District, where she was the elementary librarian for 27 years. She was the former head librarian at Eva K. Bowlby Library in Waynesburg. As a young woman, she was a co-owner of Berryman's Clothing Store in Waynesburg.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesburg. She had served as a trustee of Bowlby Library and was a member of Greene County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Library Club, Literary Guild, Twentieth Century Club, Chamber of Commerce and Business and Professional Women's Club.

Mrs. Berryman was an avid reader and animal lover and enjoyed playing bridge.

She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother and a loyal friend. This gracious lady profoundly touched the lives of many; she will be sorely missed.

Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca Berryman Hunter and husband Craig of Deep Creek Lake, Md.; three sons, Robert D. Berryman and wife Pam of Morgantown, W.Va., Jeff L. Berryman and wife Joyce of Morgantown and Duncan D. Berryman and wife Deanne of Waynesburg; six grandchildren, David Sargus, Allen, Claire, Tyler, Andrew and Allyson Berryman; and a half brother, Dr. Roy E. Furman II of Media.

Deceased is a son, John D. Berryman III.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Behm Funeral Home, 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 11, with the Rev. Gary Grau officiating, followed by interment in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eva K. Bowlby Public Library, Waynesburg.
