Son of Francis Marion Behymer and his wife, Nancy Maria Orr. Fay married Nellie Larimore on 15 October 1893 in Adams county, Illinois. She passed away in 1896. He then married Florence M. Reamy on 1 July 1903 in Chicago, Illinois. She died in 1916. He later married Florence's sister, Sadie Geraldine Reamy.

Fay applied for a passport in 1918, listing that he was under contract to the YMCA for 1 year, in support of war efforts in Great Britain and France. In that record, he signed his full name as Fay Orr Behymer (see photo). Fay and his family changed their surname to Bellmar about 1924.

Fay was not found with his wife and sons in the 1910 census of New Mexico, but an error is suspected in that entry; Florence was listed with a middle initial of "O" instead of "M", so it's possible their names were merged. Their home included Florence's sister, Sadie Geraldine Reamy. Fay is listed in St. Paul, Minnesota with his sons in the 1920 census, along with sister-in-law, Geraldine Reamy.

An Illinois death certificate index lists Fay as Fay Orr Bellmar, and correctly identified his parents as Francis Marion Behymer and Nancy Mariah Orr. That same index entry lists his wife as Geraldine. A newspaper index lists his obituary under the name F. O. Bellmar. A second entry lists the obituary of Mrs. F. O. Bellmar in 1953.
