Services for Billy Ray Balthrop, 71, Madill, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Dan Patman officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Born May 19, 1925, at Ardmore to Charles G. and Ona Ethel Balthrop, he died Feb. 21, 1997 at a Denison, Texas, hospital.

Balthrop was raised in Ardmore. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Balthrop married Mildred Barck on Jan. 2, 1948, at Las Vegas. He had lived at Madill for the past 15 years, moving there from Escondido, Calif. He was a retired home builder and member of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Jim, Eufaula; one daughter, Lonna Smith, Murrieta, Calif; one brother, J.C., Throckmorton, Texas; three sisters, Imogene Summers, Stanford, Texas, Norma Sharp, Oklahoma City, and Anita Sue Mitchell, Ardmore, four grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

Bearers are Raymond Helms, Tim Berryhill, Floyd Miller, Glen Owens, Wondo Mitchell and Billy Sels."
