WILLIAM F. BALKAM DIES AT HOME
William F. Balkam, formerly vice-president and chairman of the Board of Directors of the New York & Kentucky Company, died yesterday at his home, No. 82 Merriman street. He was a member of the Democratic State Committee for a few years and at one time was business manager for the Union and Advertiser Company. He retired from the political field in February, 1905 and thereafter devoted his time to business interests.
Mr. Balkam was active in Democratic politics in Rochester, Monroe county and the state. For several years he was one of the party's chief advisers. He served as chairman of the Executive Committee of the County Committee and was credited with doing notable work in organizing the party.
Mr. Balkam had a part in the organizing of the New York & Kentucky Company in 1900. He was made secretary, but poor health forced him to resign about a month after he announced his retirement from politics. At the time Mr. Balkam said he would withdraw from all business for a time. His connection with the Union and Advertiser company as business manager preceded the birth of the New York & Kentucky company.
Mr. Balkam once served as president of the [Menihan?] Shoe Company and was a director of the Lincoln National Bank for many years.
The funeral will take place at 2:30 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon from the home.
