Don Lester Ayers, 73, of Waco, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Don was born in Tundra, Texas, to the late William "Blackie" Lester Ayers and Frances Maxine Fugate Ayers. He grew up in East Texas and graduated from Buckner High School in 1958. After returning from the service in the U.S. Air Force, he moved his family to Waco. There, Don taught barber college and worked for a local business for many years before moving on to pursue his passion of caring for his family, friends and many, many horses. Don was a loving spirit with a servant's heart. He was a devoted, honorable, and simple man who lived his life unselfishly and gave something to everyone he ever met. Don never met a stranger and lived his life by the golden rule. He was a man of his word and he believed a man's handshake and his word was enough for him.

Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Dan Neal Ayers and Larry Jack Ayers; and brother-in-law, Richard Dominquez.

Don is survived by his wife, Eva; daughters, Mary Frances Tepe and husband, Mark, and Debbie Sue Dunkin and fiancé, Wayne Snyder; son, Michael Don Ayers; grandchildren, Wesley and Presley Tepe, Caitlyn, Dillon and Cassidy Dunkin, and Jimmy Don Ayers; step-daughter, Chrissy Donaldson and husband, Kyle; stepson, Mickey Beavan; sister, Loetta Jane Cunningham and husband, Ken; brother, Tommy Ayers and wife, Jeanette; father and mother-in-law, Johnny and Inez Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Ceasar Dominguez; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Ayers and Stella Rodriguez; the breakfast and coffee group in Elm Mott; Tyler Donaldson; and many more nieces, nephews, friends; and of course, his horses.
