JOHN WOLVERTON
John Wolverton, an old and highly esteemed resident of Derby, died at his home last Monday evening after a brief illness of a complication of diseases. Mr. Wolverton had been in poor health for some time but was able to be about until a few days before his death.
He was born near Sycamore, Ohio, Feb. 14, 1829 and was united in marriage in that state to Rebecca J. Swineheart, August 5, 1852. In the early fifties they came to Iowa, first settling in Garden Grove, afterwards moving to a farm in Clarke county and then retiring to Leroy, where they lived a number of years.
About two years ago they moved to Derby to be with their children who all reside here. They are Mrs. Dora E. Wyatt and Messrs. J. K. and Walter Wolverton, who, with their mother, are left to mourn the loss of a most devoted father and husband.
Of an amiable disposition, he made friends of all who will hear with regret of the passing away of their old time friend and neighbor.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church at Last Chance, conducted by Joseph Parkin, who had been a friend of the deceased for many years, on Thursday at 12 p.m. The members of the A.F. and A.M. lodge of Woodburn had charge of the services. Interment was made at Last Chance cemetery.

OBITUARY
THE CHARITON LEADER
Chariton, Iowa

MRS. REBECCA WOLVERTON
W. P. Wolverton and family, of Indianola, J. K. Wolverton and daughter, Twyla, of Stoutsville, Mo., Pearl Canfield and family and George Canfield of Newton, and John Wolverton, of Garden Grove, were present at the funeral services of Mrs. Wolverton last Friday.
Rebecca Jane Swineheart, daughter of Samuel P. and Jane (Milligan) Swineheart, was born at Sycamore, Wyandot county, Ohio, on June 29th, 1833, and died at the home of her son, Walter, June 16th, 1915, aged 81 years, 11 months and 17 days.
She was married to John Wolverton in 1852 and to this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters. The sons are Byron, Kay and Walter, the daughters, Jane, Elizabeth and Dora. Three of the children, Jane, Elizabeth and Byron have preceded their mother in death.
She, with her husband, moved to Iowa in 1853 and settled near Garden Grove, in which vicinity she spent most of her life. Several years ago she moved to Derby and about a year ago moved to Indianola. Her husband died Dec. 17th, 1906, aged 77 years.
She leaves to mourn their loss her children, Mrs. Dora Wyatt, of Derby, Kay, of Stoutsville, Mo., and Walter, of Indianola, besides grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Wolverton was one of the early pioneers of this part of the country and as such, bore her full share of the privations and hardships of those early days. To the courage, industry and the willingness to endure hardship of these early settlers, Iowa owes much of her present greatness and prosperity. Mrs. Wolverton belonged to that worthy class of pioneer women whose memory this community will not soon cease to honor.
Funeral services were held at the Last Chance church, Friday, June 18th, conducted by Rev. DeWitt White. Interment was made at Last Chance cemetery.
