Alva M. Wolverton, 82, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Providence Place in Dover. She was the wife of the late David L. Wolverton.

Born August 2, 1928, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Leonard W. and Viola D. (March) Small.

Alva had worked as a seamstress for Bernstein's Sewing Factory and as a dining hall assistant at Messiah Village. She also provided child care from her home, but most importantly, she took care of the family farm. Alva was a member of Dover Assembly of God where she was involved with the Rainbow Club and Women of Purpose. She was very active with the Union Fire & Hose Company #1 of Dover Ladies Auxiliary. Alva enjoyed crocheting and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two children, David G. Wolverton of Brunswick, Md., and Jane E. Musser and husband, Harry of Mechanicsburg; six grandchildren, Shannon E. Wolverton, Nicholas J. Wolverton, Michael C. Wolverton, Christopher D. Wolverton, Bethany J. Meola, and Benjamin D. Musser; and two sisters, Gloria V. Latchaw and Treva L. Smith, both of Dover. In addition to her husband and parents, Alva was preceded in death by a sister, Irma Small, and a brother, Leonard Small, Jr.

Burial will follow in St. John's Reformed Cemetery, Dover.
