"GEORGE W. ROGERS

George K. Rogers, son of Robert and Mary (Stafford) Rogers, long
since deceased, was born in Taylor County, Virginia, on the last day
of the year 1813. He came to what is now Calhoun County, West
Virginia in November 1839, and is the oldest pioneer of Sheridan
district.
He built the first grist and saw mill in the district, on Yellow
Creek, in 1841 and 1842, and his business has always been that of a
miller and farmer.

In Taylor County, West Virginia, December 27, 1863, he married
Cynthia Ann, daughter of Joab and Catherine (Bartlett) Wolverton. She
was born in Hampshire County, Virginia, August 30, 1826. The children
of her marriage with Mr. Rogers are three: James William, born
October 11, 1864; Sophia P., February 22, 1868; John W., born March
9, 1872. By a former marriage she had been the mother of eight
children, of whom seven are living. These children are Bennett
Saunders, born February 19, 1846; Rebecca C., April 5, 1847, died
February 13, 1866; Sarah E., May 24, 1849; Mary Agnes, July 6, 1851;
Joab W., July 15, 1854; George W., March 1, 1857; Lucy Ann. October
24, 1859; Albert J., September 18, 1862. Mr. Rogers receives his mail
