BENJAMIN PERRINGTON

Benjamin Perrington of RD 2, Olean-Portville Road, died Monday (May 4, 1981) shortly after arrival at St. Francis Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Tanner Falls, Pa. on Nov. 21, 1893, he was a son of George and Maude Perrington. On Feb. 23, 1924 in Scranton, Pa., he married the former Esther E. Salter, who survives.

Mr. Perrington had been employed as a foreman for many years at Cubic Aeronautics Corp., San Diego, Calif., and was a retired farmer.

A veteran of World War I, member of Company I, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart award, and was a charter member of the Salamanca American Legion.

Surviving besides his widow are a son, Robert S. Perrington of San Diego; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Cornelius of Olean; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral and committal services will be held Thursday (May 7, 1981) at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Douglas Wilson, pastor of the Portville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Olean.

Memorials if desired may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Perrington was arrested after the automobile he was driving collided with a parked car in Wildwood near Prospect shortly before 1 a.m. today.

Stephen Myers, Jr., twenty, 464 Wildwood avenue, reported at police headquarters he had parked the car, owned by his brother, Joseph Myers, and was sitting in the front seat with another young man when the Perrington machine struck it in the rear.

Police reported both cars badly damaged.

A Great Valley motorist escaped injury when his automobile skidded on the Salamanca-Great Valley highway, went off the road, and rolled over several times last night.

He was Benjamin Perrington, who said he was blinded by the lights of an approaching car as he was traveling alone toward Salamanca shortly before 10 p.m., according to the sheriff's department.

The driver related that he applied the brakes, but lost control of his car on the ice-coated highway, the machine going off the left side of the road, investigators said. It rolled over several times, coming to a halt right side up.
The top and fenders of Perrington's car were damaged and a window broken.

OLEAN – Esther E. Perrington of 410 Queen St. died today (Wednesday, April 6, 1994) in Cuba Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born Sept. 22, 1898, in St. Mary's Pa., she was a daughter of Claude and Maude Salter. On Feb. 23, 1924, in Scranton, Pa., she married Benjamin Perrington, who died May 4, 1981.

Mrs. Perrington had lived in Olean most of her life and was a member of the Portville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Robert S. Perrington of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Cornelius of Olean; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Norissa (Sis) Lentz of St. Mary's; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond Salter, Sonny Salter and Val Salter; and a sister, Dorothy Eric.

Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced in Thursday's Times Herald.
