James Minnis Allen, son of Harmon H. Allen (1864-1926) and Senora (Swiger) Allen (1872-1928), was born 15 Sep 1908 in Misisouri.

He married Helen Marie Spencer 14 Feb 1934 at Jefferson City, MO. They lived in the Valley Neighborhood of Polk Township, Taylor County, IA. Then in 1949 they moved to a farm one mile southeast of Bedford where he farmed until his death 8 Feb 1970.

Rites Today For James Allen
Funeral services for James [Minnis] Allen, 61, of Bedford, will be held today, Thurs., Feb. 12, at 2 p. m. at the east Shum-Novinger Funeral Home with Carl Cummings officiating. Mr. Allen died Sunday at his home southeast of Bedford. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
His survivors include his wife, [Helen] Marie, and three daughters, Delores Spencer, Barbara Jackson and Mary Lou Reeves

Services for Helen Marie Allen, 84, were held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home April 20 officiated by Rev. Marcia Wood. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford, Iowa. Mrs. Allen died April 17, 1990 in Bedford, Iowa.

H. Marie Allen, daughter of Ed Spencer and Rebecca Wolverton Spencer, was born in Taylor County, Iowa, on March 27, 1906 and departed this life April 17, 1990 at Bedford Iowa at the age of 84 years.

She lived and grew to maturity in Ross Township where she attended public school and the Christian Church in Bedford.
On Feb. 14, 1934 she was united in marriage to James M. Allen at Jefferson, City, MO., and they lived in the Valley Neighborhood of Polk Township, moving to a farm southeast of Bedford in 1949.

To this union three children were born: Dolores, Barbara, and Mary Lou.

She was engaged with her husband in farming.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Ernest and Junior Spencer. Left to cherish her memory are brothers, Albert Spencer and Galen Spencer of Bedford; Glen Spencer of Clearwater, Fla., and a sister, Julia Foster of New Market, Iowa; her three daughters, Dolores Spencer of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Barbara Jackson of Bedford; and Mary Lou Cox of Los Angeles, Ca.; grandchildren: Shani Reeves, Julie Cox, Ronda Spencer, Bonnie Jennings, and Colleen Chappell; and great great grandchildren Marie, Jacques and Zack Chappell and Shannon, Cory and Brandi Jennings; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was a member of the United Christian-Presbyterian Church of Bedford, Iowa. She was a kind and considerate wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
