Son of Thomas Hilton and Nancy 'Wolverton' Morris. John married Mary Ward on May 26, 1853 in Macon Co., IL. John and Mary had 5 children: Alice, Ellen, Elva, Ida and Mary Jane.

John Morris, aged 69 years, died at Carrigan, MO., on February 17, of typhoid fever, leaving three children. He was brought to Decatur on Saturday night, and buried Sunday at Walnut Grove cemetery, 4 miles southwest of the city. The deceased was a brother of Cornelius Morris. His daughters are Mrs. Kopp, of Maroa; Ida Morris, of Maroa, and Elvia Morris of Decatur.
