Frances met and married Dan Wolverton in 1922 while he was stationed with the US Navy in Brooklyn after WWI. They had no children together.

Frances was listed as a clerk for a publishing company in the 1930 US Census. In 1940 she was a clerk for Western Electric Company. According to her step-daughter, Kathryn Gorman, Frances is reported to have retired from Doubleday publishers. Dan was an armored truck guard for Brinks, Inc.

She was a first generation American, the daughter of Herman and Lena Mentler who were both born in Germany. Herman emigrated to the US in 1870 and Lena in 1885. They were married in New York in 1892. In addition to Frances, they had a son Charles Mentler born in 1898.

Herman and Lena both reported their occupations as Engineers in the 1900 Census.
