Carman Dwight McLain Dies Suddenly, Age 35

Carman Dwight McLain suffered a stroke about 5:45 last Saturday and was taken to the McNairy General Hospital. After emergency trearment he was sent on to the Kennedy Hospital in Memphis and died there about 11:00 o'clock on that morning. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Adamsville and burial was in the Mars Hill Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Home in charge.

The 35 year old pressman was employed by the Appeal Publishing Co. Mr. McLain, known to most of his friends as "Bull" had served in both the United States Navy and the Air Force.

He was married to the former Mary Plunk and was the father of four children, Myra Jane, Betty Jo, Mickie Lynn and Max, all of whom survive.

In addition to his wife and children, Mr. McLain leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. O. McLain; five brothers, Hardin of Memphis, Ray and Bobby of Nashville, Kenneth of South Carolina and Roger Dale of Adamsville, and four sisters, Ruby Anderson of Selmer, Mrs. Frankie Pickard of Covington, Mrs. Wanda Dye of California and June O'Connor of Adamsville.

Mary McLain, 68

Adamsville - Services for Mary Virginia Plunk McLain, 68, will be held at 3 p. m. Monday (March 19, 2001) at Shackelford Adamsville Chapel. Burial will be in the Mars Hill Cemetery in McNairy County.

Mrs. McLain, a supervisor for a clothing maker, died Friday at Hardin County General Hospital of heart failure. She was the daughter of Eber and Pearl (Gann) Plunk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmen Dwight McLain and a daughter, Betty Jo McLain.

She is survived by two daughters, Myra Vaughan of Crump and Mickie Jones of Adamsville; a son, Maxwell McLain of Savannah; two sisters, Omie Whitten of Memphis and Neecy Hall of Kingston Springs (TN); and a brother, David Plunk of Memphis.
