"Mrs. Eliza R. Matthews

Seneca Falls, Dec. 7 -- Mrs. Eliza R. Matthews, aged ninety years, died Thursday evening at her home on the state road south of this village, following an extended illness. Mrs. Matthews was born in this township, her parents being Sarah and Aaron Runyan. She was a woman of great strength and character, admired by all who knew her. She is survived by one son, Charles Matthews, with whom she made her home, one daughter Miss Mary S. Matthews, one sister Mrs. Sarah VanRiper of Waterloo and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from her late home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. R. C. Hebblethwaite, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal chucrh officiating, with burial in Burgh cemetery."
