Theodore William "Ted" Major was born into this world on October 20, 1924, and was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior on January 22, 2012, at the age of 87.
Celebration of life services are under the direction of George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, TX. and will take place at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Levelland, TX. Graveside services will be at 4 PM in the White Deer Cemetery, White Deer, TX.
He was born in Carson county, near White Deer, Texas and grew up in and near Groom,Texas the youngest child of Onia Robert (O.R.) and Mary Helen (Granny)Major. He graduated from Groom High School and attended Amarillo Junior College before joining the Army Air Corps and serving as a P-47 fighter pilot during World War II. Ted married Eunice Marrs from Amarillo, in New York City in 1944, just two weeks before his overseas deployment. Following his service discharge in 1947, Ted was engaged in farming and ranching north and east of Groom. He served as manager of the Groom Wheat Growers Co-op Grain Elevator for 26 years and Abernathy Co-op Grain elevator for 16 years. After his retirement in 1990, he resided in Lubbock and later moved to Levelland, TX to be near family.
Ted and Eunice raised five sons before Eunice's passing in 1982. He was later married to Betty Albers from Abernathy. Ted was an avid golfer and loved watching Dallas Cowboys Football. He was also a passionate fan of Red Raider football and Lady Raider basketball. He was a faithful, Christian man, a long-time choir member and an active member of the Methodist churches in his communities. He was a member of the Open Door Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church in Levelland. Ted was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a devoted husband, Daddy, PeePaw/PapaT/Grandpa and it was his devotion to family and faith that he leaves behind as a lasting legacy.
Survivors include a long list of loved ones: his five sons: Brad Major of Columbia, TN; Kyle Major, of Hebron, KY; Jett and Lynette Major of Levelland, TX; Del and Schellon Major of The Woodlands, TX; Chad and Kate Major of Cedar Hill, TX; step-daughters: Ferral McCloud of Santa Fe, NM; Becky Grant of Camp Verde, AZ; twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great-granchildren. He is also survived by three nieces and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Eunice E Marrs Major; step-son, Alan Albers; brother,Onia R "Bob" Major Jr, and his sister, Dorothy Frederiksen.
His family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Beehive Assisted Living in Levelland, TX, Accolade Hospice Care, and Dr. Jeff Young for their faithful and loving care of Ted.

Eunice Marrs Major
Eunice was born Eunice Eugenia Marrs, fourth and youngest child of Vivalda and Nettie Marrs. Eunice lived most of her younger life in a rural/farm setting where her father was a dairyman and farmer/stockman in the Pleasant Valley community North of Amarillo, Texas. She graduated Amarillo High School in 1944, met and married Ted Major of Groom,Texas who was serving as a pilot officer in the Army Air Corps.Eunice worked briefly as a telephone operator in Amarillo until the return of Ted from Europe, she then settled into being Wife, Mother, and Homemaker in Groom,Texas. Mother to five sons(Brad, Kyle, Jett, Del and Chad)and active in her community,(both civic and religious), Eunice found time additionaly to have an avid interest in being an artist, creating many oil paintings and various craft items,and was behind the design and production of many school and church events. Taken from us all too soon, she is lovingly remembered and deeply missed.
