GERALD (JERRY) CURTIS ABBOTT
Gerald C. “Jerry” Abbott, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Gerald Curtis “Jerry” Abbott was born May 30, 1930 at Lake Manawa, Iowa the son of Adam Jess and Bonnie (Jones) Abbott. He was raised in the southwest Iowa area attending school at Bartlett. The family moved to Red Oak in 1946 where he started his trucking career with Russell Halvin Trucking. Jerry was united in marriage to Patricia Hunter on September 16, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa. Jerry and Pat moved to Nebraska where Jerry worked for Hunt Transportation and was transferred to Kansas with this job and then back to Nebraska. They moved to Red Oak in 1959 where Jerry started his own trucking company: Abbott and Sons Trucking. He later worked as an independent contractor until retiring from the transportation business approximately four years ago.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father: Adam in 1946; his wife: Patricia Abbott in 1992; his mother: Bonnie Abbott in 2006; sisters: Dixie Dozier and Donetta Cady; and brothers: Douglas Abbott and Kenneth “Tuffy” Abbott. Survivors include his special friend and companion: Mary Penry of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Jeanne Van Fosson and husband Virgil of Red Oak, Iowa; son: Jerry Lee Abbott of Elliott, Iowa; grandchildren: Tammi Redd and Husband Brian of Coburg, Iowa; and Tony Clark and wife Jennifer of Stanton, Iowa; great grandchildren: Cassi, Jessi, and Emma Redd of Coburg, Iowa; and Emily and Tarra Clark of Stanton, Iowa; sisters: Bonnie Elkins and husband Arthur of Emerson, Iowa; Marjorie Munn of Tucson, Arizona; Sharon McGinnis of Wheeling, Illinois; and Carmen “Chubby” Williams and husband Bob of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brothers: John Abbott and wife Lorraine of Fountain Hills, Arizona; Joe Abbott and wife Leta of Live Oak, California; and Danny Abbott and wife Joyce of Red Oak, Iowa; uncle: Wally Jones and wife Louise of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gordon Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30-8 PM Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Foundation, or the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor.

Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Abbott was born December 1, 1927 in Corning to Perry and Lucille Parrott Huter, attended school in Corning and lived in Nebraska and Kansas, but spent most of her life in Red Oak. She married Gerald Abbott in Red Oak on September 16, 1949, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Jeanne Clark of Red Oak, one son, Jerry Abbott of Villisca, Iowa, two grandchildren, Tammi Redd of Coburg and Anthony J. Clark of Rapid City, South Dakota.
