Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Price Funeral Chapel in Auburn, Wash., for Owen J. (Casey) Wolverton, 48, former Nelson resident. He died Aug. 19 at the Auburn General Hospital following a long illness.
Mr. Wolverton was born Mar. 26, 1914 at Somerset, Nebr., and spent most of his early life at Dickens, Nebr. He lived five years at Hamlet, Nebr., and six years in Nelson. The family moved to Auburn from Loveland, Colo., in November 1955.
He was married to Wilma M. Raney in Holyoke, Colo., April 23, 1938.
He had been an insurance agent most of his life, operating agencies in Hamlet and Nelson and in Auburn from 1955 to 1961.
During his lifetime he was a strong enthusiast for sports, having managed and played on semi-pro baseball teams in the middlewest. In Auburn he managed the South Aurburn 14- to 16-year-old team in 1959.
Mr. Wolverton was a member of the Auburn Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Auburn.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Valetta, and four sons, Terence Ray, Lee Owen, Dennis M., and Cable J., all of the home, three brothers, Elza, Sidney, Nebr., Wayen, Peetz, Colo., and Newman of Vancouver, Wash.; and four sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Edith) Land of North Platte, Mrs. Lyle (Beulah) Bennett of Wallace, Mrs. David (Marion) Burket of Hayes Center and Mrs. William (Eva) Wright of Warrington, Fla.
Elder Kenneth Mittleider officiated at the Wednesday services. Interment followed in the Auburn cemetery. Two old Nebraska friends, Clem Reeve of Nelson and Max Lanham of Nora, were among the casketbearers.
