Dean Elliott Pence, 77, of Edinburg, Virginia, died on Monday, February 2, 2015. He was born May 26, 1937, in Shenandoah County.
He was a son of the late Walter and Mary Virginia Litten Pence.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Pence and Russell Pence; and three sisters, Lucille Derieux, Betty Lou Geist and Margaret Baty.
Mr. Pence was founder and president of Wholesome Foods in Edinburg. He was a member of Union Forge United Methodist Church, where he was on the administrative council and a trustee, and he was a member of the Hamburg Ruritan Club. He dedicated his life to providing employment to many individuals and families for over 50 years. He was proud of his employees’ work and dedication.
Mr. Pence is survived by his wife, Syvilla Pence; his daughter, Brigette (Daryl) Huffman of Woodstock; three sons, Nathan (Barbara) Pence of Edinburg, Wesley (Stephanie) Pence of Edinburg and Russell Anthony Pence of Bellevue, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Kelly Pence of Edinburg; his sister, Gale Ray of Edinburg; his brothers, William Pence and Richard Pence, both of Edinburg; and six grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Savannah, Hayden, Madison and Allen.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 5, 2015, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Valley Funeral Service, Bowmans Crossing. The service will be conducted Friday, February 6, 2015, 3 p.m. at Union Forge United Methodist Church, 131 Union Forge Church Road, Edinburg, VA 22824 by Pastor J. Robert Berghuis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Pence, Jake Pence, David Pence, Richard Pence, Joe Proctor and Marvin Polk III. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Edinburg Liar’s Club and Hamburg Ruritan Club.
Mr. Pence could be seen on many occasions driving his antique vehicles around the town of Edinburg.
