Death: Jul. 1, 2011
Midland

John gently entered into the presence of the Lord Friday, July 1, 2011, in Midland, Texas. He courageously and fiercely fought cancer for five long years before losing the battle. But, John was the ultimate victor.

Born on April 17, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas, to John and Kathryn Frentress, John played sports from grade school through high school. He was a proud member of the Monterey Plainsmen marching band and made many lifelong friendships during this time. He worked most of his adult life as a plumber. John was a member of Raintree Christian Church, Lubbock, Texas.

John was preceded in death by his dad, John Frentress.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Frentress of Odessa; daughters, Erica Dawn Frentress and Staci Nichole Frentress, both of Lubbock; stepdaughter, Candi Moates of Lubbock; stepson, Lonnie Brown of Lamesa, Texas; mother, Kathryn Frentress of Lubbock; and sisters, Judy Tartt of Midland, Texas, and Janett Frentress of Odessa, Texas. He also left behind many, many cousins that he dearly loved.

The family suggests memorials to CaringBridge.com or Interim Hospice of Midland, Texas. John has chosen to donate his body to the Texas Tech Medical School in hopes that one day a cure for this disease will be eradicated and others could benefit from what he had to endure.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Raintree Christian Church, Lubbock, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.

John’s "bucket list" desire to see his daughter graduate from Lubbock High School led to the first-ever live streaming of Lubbock Independent School District graduations online in May 2011.

Working with his sisters Judy Tartt and Janette Frentress, Nancy Sharp, LISD director of communications and community relations, with the gracious cooperation of Texas Tech and the United Spirit Arena led to the first-ever live streaming of Lubbock Independent School District graduations online.

John watched his daughter Staci Frentress graduate in May 2011, a few weeks before his passing July 1.

The family will forever be grateful for the kind considerations of those who worked to make this possible for John, and for continuing this for others in subsequent years.
