Mattie Bowen

Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Mattie Bowen, 89, former Deadwood resident who died Saturday In a hospital following a short illness. The mother of Eldon Bowen, former manager of the F te M Bootery here, she lived at the Gillmore Hotel for a number of years.

Mrs. Bowen was born in Virginia May 11, 1869 and moved to Missouri as a young girl. She later lived in Elko, Nev. She was married to Edwin' Wolverton and they had one son, Joel Archie Wolverton, who died In' 1955. She was married in 1900 to Franklin F. Bowen at St. Joseph, Mo., who died in 1923. She went to join him in Rapid City from Deadwood about three years ago. She is survived by her son. Eldon. Rapid City, manager of the F & M store, four grandchildren, one granddaughter, and a daughter-inlaw, Mrs. Susie Wolverton, Grand Island, Neb.
