William's father, James, never returned from the Civil War. His mother
took William to her people in Sharp and Fulton counties and married again.
William lived and was a merchant for several years until he retired at
Zion in Izard county. He served as county judge of Izard county(note:
1908-1910), reared four sons and five daughters, most of whom still live
in Izard county. His grandson, Marcus, is counselor and director of the
Legislative Council of Arkansas. --paraphrased from William Erwin
